Marstan Press - Will the iPad Harm the Print Industry?

Will the success of the iPad in increasing advertising revenue and circulation for Newspapers and Magazines have an adverse effect on the commercial printing industry?

KENT, ENGLAND, March 18, 2011 /Graphics and Printing PR News/ -- The success of the iPad and other tablet PC's is being received as a much needed boost for the publishing industry. Newspapers and magazines have seen sales and advertising revenues fall during the last decade, however the new platforms and subscriber models will allow publishers to reach new audiences and increase advertising income.

However the impact on the printing industry is far less clear. Will the increased interest in digital content, create a parallel interest in the printed counterparts? Or could this spell a further decline in an already uncertain trading environment for commercial printing. The ability to download books, magazines and newspapers directly to the device provides an immediate update for news content. There is also a different reach for advertisers, with the ability to include video, contact forms and direct links to their website.

The flip-side of the new distribution methods is that content may become more disposable, with more distractions from adverts and other functions available on electronic devices. For reading books and magazines there is a more immersive experience for the reader, when holding the physical printed format. Also a printed item has no reliance on batteries and much less than it's digital counterpart on lighting conditions.
